Shock loss in the Democratic primary in New York. Self-described socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez knocked out long-time establishment incumbent Joe Crowley. Are we on the road to socialism...or is something more at play?

A Democratic Socialist has just defeated 10 term incumbent Joe Crowley. This isn't the first time a socialist has held a seat in congress but it is an upset considering the massive difference in campaigns and experience. Crowley outspent Cortez 10 to 1 but still lost in the primary.

However, I think this may backfire on the left as many people find socialism too far left and might move to the republican party as an alternative.
